#Cerwin vega speaker reviews drivers
I would say that more-sensitive speakers do seem to have a liveliness about that that more damped and accurate speakers like KEF, B&W, etc miss.ģ) I don't know exactly how old your speakers are, but I can tell by looking that they are of a vintage when crossover design was less well understood, and the drivers themselves were not as refined. Now that is not necessarily true, but I don't think he strictly meant the distortions we measure. Most any other speaker will use up more amp power, possibly meaning more clipping.Ģ) Paul Klipsch claimed efficiency and low distortion went hand-in-hand. Well, here's what I would say as a speaker engineer:ġ) C-Vs tend to be significantly more sensitive than other speakers, though I am not sure about your exact model.

I'm certainly not an audiophile like many of you here are and I wouldn't want to spend more than $2k on a new pair.Īny information/advice would be appreciated. I have a modest system but I guess my question would be, first, if you're familiar with these speakers, what are your thoughts on them? And secondly, is there a pair of modern floorstanding speakers you would recommend? I don't have a subwoofer nor do I want to add one. I really do not need all of the volume the CV's put out but when you push them they really do open up nicely. Over the last few months I have been considering replacing them for a more modern, more accurate speaker but I worry I won't be as satisfied with a new pair, mainly in the bass department. But then again, maybe I just haven't heard how defined another speaker could be. The bottom end is excellent, the guitars are solid and meaty while the highs are perfect, not too bright at all. I have read many good reviews on these speakers over the years but audiophiles tend to say they are not very "accurate" or "defined" and as I sit here listening to some rock music at a moderate volume they still sound amazing. I have owned these monsters since the 90s when I purchased the floor models because the sound, mainly the power and thumping bass, just blew me away.
